Blog 14: Learning from another ENG 99

By reading the three essays, I think I like the “Post 2”. When I first looked at the second essay, the organization was impressed me that I think it has a clear beginning, middle, and end, and avoids unnecessary repetition. The problem he has is at the first paragraph, he add his own opinion in the summary which is not very good. For the reason that I like his body paragraph, I think I will choose this one to pass, because he has a strong support idea. If he improves his summary without any personal opinion, it will be a good passing essay.
The first one I don’t think is good because in the essay there is no support idea all he used was just his own opinion. So I will rank it as 2. The third one did well on the first and second paragraphs, the summary was clear, nice introduction but in the body, I don’t think it is a strong support. So I will rank it as 3.

Blog 10: Hero and anti-hero in the movie Hero

In my opinion, Bernie LaPlante and John Bubber are both hero in the movie "hero", may be they are not super hero because none of them is near- perfect. But they all saved lives in the movie. Bernie LaPlante saved people from the crashed plane, at that moment he is a hero and he didn't mentioned that himself is a hero, he just left silently. John Bubber also is a hero when he went to the hospital and gave the dying boy courage in face to the illness. He also asked people to help those homeless people.

Hero also made mistakes in their life. No one is perfect. Bernie LaPlante and John Bubber also did something wrong. Although LaPlante stole a purse when he tried to save the reporter, John Bubber lied to public he is the hero and get what he are not supposed to, i still believe that thay are hero. Just like John Bubber says at the evry last of the film, everyone is a hero in a specific moment. Martin Luther kind said " many people do the right things because of the wrong reasons. Bernie LaPlante and John Bubber might in that kind of situation.

blog:9 an education in citizenship

The article "an education in citizenship" is about an argument, that the Illinois State decide to charge the non-citzen immigrants lees for tuition than they charge the legal citizen. The author thinks that the legal citizen have more rights than the illegals have, but in this case, they have more benefits, it's unfair. Although both legal and illegal people pay their taxes, they have different chargement for higher education,so the author think the bill shouldn't be passed.

In my opinion, i disagree with the author, because i think it's just trying to help the people who want to take a higher education, but they can't afford. I have a friend who needs to pay his tition by a high rates as a international students.

He's a close friend of mine, so i know how much he need to pay and compare my tuitions, his always need to pay as twice as i need to pay, even he takes less classes than me. Ath the begining, his parents prepared enough money for him so he didn't need worry about the tuition. One day his parents told him that their family's business was not as good as before, the might not surpport him till he graduate. He tired to borrow money form the bank, but the bank told him they wouldn't do it, because he was not the U.S. citizen. Finally, he went back to China and gave up his enducation here.

What i want to express in my story is that the non-citzen people needs more help in some situation. They feel more helpless when they get in truble. Related to the article, we shouldn't compare the right between legal and illegal people. Actually, the illegal immigrants have less and less right than the citizen. In this case, the sentors just want to help the people who are in the lowest class of our society. It's not that too much.

blog:8 red pill or blue pill: is ignorance bliss?

The article is about "choice". The author gives two examples which are two films, "The Matrix" and "Alice in wonderland". In the article, it mentioned another article "the allegory of the cave", which also talks about choosing the turth or the illusion, and it tells us that he reality adn the turth might not be choosen by most of people, because of the reality is not always pleasant for us.

Then the author wrote about the protagonist of the movie " The Matrix",Neo and other rebels' training, the "jump program" and other tranings. By surffering from the pain in the real world. There is a guy ,Cypher thought he made a wrong choice to live in the real world, because the reality didn't make him satisfied. So he decided to deal with the bad guy in order to back to the unreal world and enjoy it. The author also gives another philosoper's idea to represent his point of view about what happened in the film which is: "It is better to be a human being dissatisfied than a pig satisfied.

The main idea of the article is when people make choice between the illusion and the turth, there's also anthor choice about living in illusions saitisfeid or face to the unpleasant reality and work it out by ourselves.

blog:6 i know the truth, so don't bother me with facts

The article " I know the truth, so don't bother me with facts" explains how people was influnced by rumors, and people will hardly changed their mind, even though the rumors are proved to be wrong by rebuttals. The author of the article also suggests people to think before they believe, because at least those facts do prove something for us.

I agree with the author's idea. I think our mind are essliy affected by what we always believe or we accustom to do and it reminded me that people found out the weakness of us long tieme ago. Plato wrote a story named "Alleory of the cave" told us that people live in illusions without thinking about which was truth.

In the story, there was a group of prisoners who were not able to see anything behind them and what they could see was only the shadows. When one prisoner was released, he was able to see the real world. He went back to the cave and told everyone who hadn't see the real things. No one believed him, because every one lived in the cave all believed that the reality was what they saw on the wall.

In conlusion, we live in a world filling with informations now. People need to know how to use those informations and figure out what is truth or not truth. Just like the article tells us, thinking about the truth, then decide what you are going to believe.

blog:4 The Allegory of the Cave

"The Allegory of the Cave" explains a weekness of humanity which is about choosing to believe the illusion but not the truth. The author used a story to support his point of veiw. He used the "cave" and "light" to express the connection between the illusion and truth.
